Introducing the 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500

After a mid-cycle refresh for the 2016 model year that significantly updated the design, the 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 is getting an all new transmission along with some more cosmetic updates. With the 2017 Silverado you have more paint colors to choose from and a few other options.

The new Silverado 1500 transmission is an eight-speed automatic, replacing the former six-speed across the board. The eight-speed will also phase out the six-speed in the GMC Sierra 1500. The eight-speed transmission has been available on some higher trim levels of the Silverado since 2015, but this is the first year it will be available across the board.

If you’re planning on buying a Silverado soon, wait for fall and get the 2017. The superior transmission is worth the wait—you’ll have overall better ride quality and fuel economy, which will be especially noticeable with the Silverado’s more powerful engine options.

Prices are not expected to change dramatically for the new Silverado 1500, though they will likely rise a bit for inflation and the addition of the standard 8-speed automatic. Come see the current models at Hanner Chevrolet in Abilene, TX today.
