Bold and Imaginative: the Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo

Chevrolet just built the world’s coolest video game race car. What’s even cooler is it has a real-world counterpart.

In the 1970s, Chaparral was a famous race team which made a lot of advancements in racing technologies. At the time, Chevrolet joined forces with Chaparral and, as PSFK points out, many technologies you see today came about from that partnership. That includes inventions like “lightweight-alloy powertrain systems” and “composite monocoque chassis.”

The two teams figured, “Why should this kind of creative magic only happen once?” So they’ve teamed up once again.

Enter the Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo.  If you haven’t already heard about the laser it utilizes, allow PSFK to explain: “The laser creates powerful shockwaves which, in succession, propel the car forward.” Another spectacular aspect of the car is how the driver lies down and controls the car through his or her body movements.

If you can’t catch a glimpse of the Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo in person, no problem. You can experience its virtual counterpart later this year, just like we at Hanner Chevrolet will be, with the release of Gran Turismo 6.
