When you think about fall foliage, you might think of more northern areas like New England or the Midwest. But even here in Texas, we can enjoy all the beauty the autumn season has to offer. If you have been yearning for glimpses of orange, gold, and red, you may have to go on a little road trip, but here are five fall foliage drives in Texas sure to fulfill your autumn desires

  1. Vanderpool. Head south to Vanderpool and take a long drive along FM 187. You’ll be in awe by the breathtakingly vibrant colors. You can also stop at Lost Maples for a beautiful autumn hike.
  2. Drive east, past Dallas, to reach the picturesque Athens. Take a long drive along Loop 7 and you may just wonder if what you’re seeing is real. You can also take a drive through Davey Dogwood Park for a more laidback experience.
  3. A few hours south in Utopia, the scenery lives up to its name. Ranch Road 1050 will lead you through hill country for vibrant colors and some great water scenes. FM 1050 is another great spot that will lead you right to the beautiful Garner State Park.
  4. Northeast of Dallas along FM 3505, you should drive through the small Cooper Lake State Park to experience some wonderful foliage.
  5. Drive along CR 122 and FM 2868 in Tyler to complete your fall foliage tour.
