2016 GMC Sierra with eAssist Improves Efficiency

GMC Sierra with eAssistIf you’ve been craving a powerful truck that is also more efficient, the 2016 GMC Sierra with eAssist may be what you’ve been waiting for. This truck features a light electrification system that further enhances its already class-leading V8 efficiency.

With the eAssist technology, the 2016 Sierra achieves 13% greater efficiency in the city with an EPA-estimated 18 mpg. It also helps on the highway, too, with an improvement of 2 mpg to 24 mpg. The 5.3-liter eAssist V8 is still powerful with a GM-estimated 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque.

This powerful and efficient truck will have a maximum trailering rating of 9,400 pounds and will come standard with an Eaton locking rear differential for improved traction on uneven or slippery surfaces.

“Innovative technology that enhances capability is at the core of everything we do at GMC and the new Sierra with eAssist takes it to a higher level,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC Sales and Marketing, in a statement. “Its advantages are delivered in a compromise-free package that enables real-world fuel savings with premium content that provides a very high level of refinement, comfort and connectivity.”

Now, there is one downside to this truck. General Motors will only produce 200 of them during 2016 and they will only be available in California. However, GM says it will “adjust as appropriate moving forward.” So, if enough people show interest, the truck could move our way soon.

What do you think about this truck? Would you like a more fuel-efficient truck?
