Summer Grilling Tips

Everyone loves a good summer cookout, but if throwing a barbecue has never been your thing, fear not. These grilling tips from Hanner Chevrolet will help you make the most of your charcoal-fueled dinner.

Preparation

Before you get started, you’ll want to make sure everything is in order. Use a wire brush to scrub the grate clean, which helps create clean grill marks. Grease the grill grate with oil to help prevent foods from sticking. Finally, before you start the coals, get all of your ingredients as prepared as possible. This way, veggies, meats, and marinades will be ready to go, allowing you to focus on the grilling, not the chopping.

Cooking

For good results, grilling requires patience. Resist the urge to poke or flip your food excessively, or to lift the lid too much. Leaving the lid closed lets meats and vegetables stay moist and absorb flavors better, and the same goes for letting food sit still on the grill. Don’t flip your meats until they’ve had time to develop grill marks and a crust that will keep in flavor and juices. Once you pull items off of the grill, give them a chance to sit for a few minutes before serving. This will give them a chance to finish cooking and let the flavors settle, leading to a delicious summer dinner.
